Windows vista cdrom disappears

I've uninstalled iTunes and Nero since I saw they may have caused issues. I can't use device manager because the device isn't listed, so no way to update drivers. I'm at the point now where there isn't much more information that I've found from Microsoft or other sources, if anyone has had this issue or knows something else I can try to get Vista to recognize the drive I'd really appreciate.

So that option is obviously not going to work too well. Sometimes that and a system restart will resolve the problem with Windows not "seeing" the drive.

Windows periodically takes regular snapshots of your Windows configuration, settings, and program files. If you can remember the most recent time when your computer was working correctly, System Restore will roll back all system changes to that point. For help using this feature, see my illustrated System Restore article.

If none of those procedures revive the drive, we must put on the surgical gloves and hack the Windows registry. Here's what you need to do:. This article was posted by Bob Rankin on 20 Jun Posted by: Gilad 28 Jan Posted by: rg 09 Feb Doesn't work for me. I can even boot up from a bootable cd.

I just can't see it in Windows.. I don't want to reformat, unless it is my last option. Any suggestions anyone?

I don't have a driver for this dvd multi recorder. Do you have any idea how to fix this problem? Posted by: avee 30 Mar Hello, I have a problem with my dvd drive. It plays and record cds but when I play movies there's no audio even volume is to the max and its in fastforward speed even the setting is only on normal speed.

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but still won't work. I also tried the upper and lower keys still doesnt work. Does anybody know how to fix it? Please help, urgent! Posted by: Deepan 15 May Some DVD drives do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the System maker and device maker to see if there is firmware or drivers for your drive if needed. So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to not function while the others do so properly.

Did you complete the troubleshooter for the drive that still does not work? There are some registry entries that the troubleshooter does not fix and those "might" be the cause. Check with your System Maker and Device maker for both possible firmware updates and the correct Registry entries for your drive. Be sure to ask for specific keys involved as well as the settings.
